Hi Guys
Can any of you that have used/owned one of these collimators tell me how good they are and is there a significant benefit over the non self centering laser collimators.
thanks

I can perhaps see the benefit of self centering of the Hotech during collimation, but once complete and the eyepiece is put into the focuser drawtube and secured with the 2 tightening thumbscrews this surely takes the centre of the eyepiece away from the theoretical centre of the drawtube to which the collimation was performed

have one, its a great bit of kit, if expensive. Yes it has the SCA but that is not why I bought it as the SCA is of no use if there is any slop in the focuser. I always make sure that the focuser is wound all the way in, to my mind thats probably the most stable point of the focusers travel. The best point about it is that it is accurately made by a laser specialist in the USA. It is set up in the factory and is not user collimatable, they claim that it cant go off. IIRC First Light Optics said somewhere that if there is any problem with a Hotech it should not be tampered with by the user, but should be sent back to the supplier. The other laser collimators, as far as I am aware, all use those cheap laser pointers in a machined body, held by 3 grub screws. They are not as accurately made and can go off.
